Community-Wide Friday Night Hub + Reproductive Rights Shabbat

For the first time, Friday Night Hub will be open to the entire community, regardless of age.

In observance of National Reproductive Rights Shabbat, we welcome special guest Senator Liz Krueger to begin the service with a sermon on reproductive rights and Jewish values.

Experience a reimagined Friday night worship service the Israeli newspaper Haaretz has called a “musical prayer phenomenon” with the melodies of our ancient prayers rewritten by Israeli superstar David Broza, who performs with a choir and a 20-member band, enhanced by brilliant lighting. Black History Month Shabbat with special guest Isabel Wilkerson

In honor of Black History Month, we welcome Isabel Wilkerson, the first African American woman to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize in journalism, author of the New York Times #1 bestseller Caste, winner of the National Book Award for The Warmth of Other Suns and former Chicago bureau chief of The New York Times.

Commemorate the moment Miriam led our people in jubilant song across the Red Sea from slavery to freedom. Led by Cantor Mo Glazman, this year’s service will celebrate freedom, peace and healing in a unique collaboration with Emre Celik, Executive Director of the Peace Islands Institute of New York. The Temple Emanu-El choir will be joined by Amir Vahab, renowned Sufi and Middle Eastern musician, and Willana Mack, celebrated gospel singer and music director of Central Baptist Church.

Shabbat Service with special guest Liev Schreiber: American Values, Jewish Values and Ukraine

Friday, January 19 | 6:00 PM | Temple Emanu-El, Fifth Avenue Sanctuary

Welcome special guest Liev Schreiber to speak about America’s stake in Ukraine’s victory. Schreiber will be joined by Michael Goldfarb, BlueCheck Ukraine cofounder. BlueCheck Ukraine harnesses the generosity of donors by vetting and fast-tracking funds to charity organizations on the ground in Ukraine.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Shabbat

We are honored to welcome The Reverend Morine Bowen-Avery from The Concord Baptist Church of Christ as we come together in celebration of the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our choir will join with the choir from The Concord Baptist Church for a night of unity and beautiful melody.
