Once upon a time, in the far away land of Babylon, a young man named Abram smashed the idols in his fathers shop, moved to Canaan… and gave birth to monotheism and the Jewish people.
5,780 years later, the Jewish narrative is filled with visionaries and innovators, scholars and mystics, entrepreneurs, Mavericks, farmers, shopkeepers and entertainers who turned a small band of nomads into a multi national community. It is a story like no other, of endurance spinning millennia, ingenuity in the face of oppression, grief relieved by humor, study, debate, noble work and, ultimately, the triumph of a nation that refused to fade into history.
The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center celebrates the triumph, the culture and community that have evolved over the ages – and evolve still – from Beersheba to Brooklyn and Austria to Argentina. We do so by exploring our history and our values, honoring the men and women who make us proud and by coming together as a community.
This is our heritage. This is Judaism. This is the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center.
I hope you will join us often.
