Club 65: The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943

An original presentation of this historic event will be given by Mr. Mark Willner. The uprising was the first massive civilian armed resistance against the Germans during W.W. II. Led by 23-year-old Mordechai Anielewicz, the ZOB (Zydowska Organiczacja) Jewish Fighting Organization fought a heroic and courageous struggle against far superior forces for almost one month before succumbing. Mark is a temple member, now in his 55th year as a teacher in our Religious School. In 1995, New York State selected him to receive the Yavner teaching award for “Outstanding Contributions to the Teaching About the Holocaust and Other Violations of Human Rights.” He won a similar award in 2004 from the Anne Frank Center, U.S.A. His career in the NYC public schools was capped by being recognized as the “Outstanding Social Studies Supervisor in the United States”, 2001.
