Streicker Center: Hilma & Meg Wolitzer: Women on the Move

Even at the age of 91, novelist Hilma Wolitzer remains at the top of her game, still probing the tensions and contradictions of daily life with candor, grace and a crystal-clear eye. Her latest book is a collection of short stories — most originally published in Esquire and The Saturday Evening Post in the 1960s and 1970s — with her earlier characters reimagined living in the present.

She will be joined by her equally successful daughter Meg Wolitzer for a discussion of the writing gene, mother-daughter writerly advice and their latest work.

Hilma Wolitzer is the author of nine adult novels, four novels for young readers and one work of nonfiction. Her latest novel is Today a Woman Went Mad in the Supermarket: Stories.

Meg Wolitzer’s thirteen bestselling novels are deeply rooted in feminism. Her novel, The Wife, was made into an award-winning film in 2017 starring Glenn Close. Her newest novel, The Female Persuasion, tackles today’s pressing issues of campus assault, intergenerational feminist strife, mentorship, friendship and ambition.
