WITH OUR SPECIAL GUEST

CANTOR SARA ANDERSON

Cantor Sara Anderson is a proud alumna and ordainee of the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Cantor Anderson grew up in Los Angeles, where her family was members of the Stephen Wise Temple.

Her commitment to music was fortified as she attended the prestigious, audition-based Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, the only US High School with a designated Operatic Studies program. Sara earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from UCLA in 2014 and her Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Mannes College, the New School for Music in 2016.

History of the Sacks Award

Each year since 1977, the Men’s Club Board of Directors has established a committee to recommend deserving individuals to receive the Samuel Sacks Achievement Award. Samuel Sacks, a dedicated and devoted member of the congregation and of the Men’s Club, established a fund 45 years ago whereby the temple receives a yearly contribution. Mr. Sacks also wished to recognize members of the congregation for their service and support of the temple.

About Our Recipient

This year’s recipient is Women of Emanu-El. Founded in 1922, Women of Emanu-El is both a social and civic organization open to all women of the congregation. The Women of Emanu-El Program Committee plans numerous lectures and outings throughout the year, in addition to sponsoring a variety of activities that benefit the greater New York City community, including the Art Center for Seniors, Ronald McDonald House, English in Action, and Project Backpack.

The charge for the event is $60.00 for Men’s Club and Women of Emanu-El members and $70.00 for all other temple members and guests. RSVP by Friday, October 14.

A cocktail reception will start the evening; dinner will follow.
