Center for Interfaith Dialogue: Defense Against the Dark Arts

What do love spells, gorgon faces, and the evil eye have in common? How did pious peoples, past and present, propitiate the divine and thwart the malintentions of enemies and supernatural forces alike? Join in the discussion of magic and mysticism across time and tradition. Topics will include the mysticism of Paul of Tarsus, the portrayal of Jesus as a magician in the art of the earliest Christians, the use of a Jewish curse-tablet to sway a horse race in ancient Byzantium, and the double-life of priests who moonlighted as magical specialists.

Meets the final Monday of each month: Oct. 30, Nov. 27, Jan. 29, Feb 26, March 25, May 29
