First, join us for a docent-led tour of the landmark exhibition Modigliani and the Modern Portrait at the Nassau County Museum of Art, formerly the Frick Estate. Devoted to the way that Modigliani powerfully re-defined the art of portraiture, the show includes his masterworks along with paintings and drawings by his Parisian contemporaries, such as Picasso, van Dongen and Laurencin. Modigliani’s enduring influence on artists even in our own time is shown in a selection of Contemporary paintings by artists like David Hockney, Eric Fischl, Elizabeth Peyton and others.
We will enjoy lunch at Felice Roslyn before continuing on to the Historic Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve where we will take a private guided tour. Located on the original Guggenheim Estate, Hempstead House is the Tudor-style summer home of Daniel and Florence Guggenheim. Designed by architects Hunt & Hunt in 1912, this 50,000 square-foot three-story mansion was regarded as one of the most lavish estates to occupy Long Island’s Gold Coast.
The cost of the day is $175.00 for Women of Emanu-El and Men’s Club members; $185.00 for all other temple members and their guests. Bus transportation and lunch included.
RSVP no later than September 15th.
