The word celebrity rarely appears as an adjective in front of the phrase Torah scholar. But Avivah Zornberg has created a new category of Torah teaching, an innovative blend of biblical narrative, Talmud, literature, secular philosophy and psychology that is at once so ancient and ultramodern that she packs auditoriums across the globe.
The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center is proud to welcome back this author of six books with a doctorate from Cambridge University and a proud rabbinic lineage as she breathes new life into the ancient story of Adam and Eve, limning the genesis of our human longings.
Her remarks will be followed by a screening of In the Beginning Was Desire, a film based on Zornberg’s unique perspective, made by award-winning filmmaker David Grubin with visuals conceived and created by Naomie Kremer.
