The History & Majesty of Emanu-El
Known for its grand architecture, warm community and bold programming, Temple Emanu-El is the flagship temple for Reform Judaism in the United States. Our Fifth Avenue Sanctuary is globally renowned for its size and majesty and, each year, thousands of visitors from around the world travel to New York City to experience Emanu-El.
The Fifth Avenue Sanctuary is open to the public during the following hours:
Tuesday and Wednesday, 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
The Bernard Museum of Judaica is open Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
All temple visitors must be fully vaccinated and boosted. Click here for our Covid-19 guidelines. Masks are optional for indoor visitation. All guidelines are subject to change.
Please note – no tours are permitted on holidays or during life-cycle events. We recommend that you call the at 212-744-1400 prior to your visit to make certain of no unforeseen closings.

For safety purposes, all individuals will pass through scanners and all large bags, briefcases and backpacks will be inspected upon arrival. Security will require large bags and luggage to remain checked in the lobby before entering the sanctuary. These items will be monitored during your visit.
Docent-led tours are available for groups of 10 or more. Groups should allow approximately 45 minutes for the sanctuary and an additional half-hour for the Herbert & Eileen Bernard Museum of Judaica. The museum is also open Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and admission is free. We ask that group tours be booked at least two weeks in advance. Please complete and return our group tour reservation form. Once your form is received, a member of our staff will contact you to confirm your visit.

Our Fifth Avenue Sanctuary is located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 65th Street in New York City. The doors on Fifth Avenue are only open for services and major events. Our visitor entrance is located at One East 65th Street, New York City. Entry for our Nursery School, Religious School, and Streicker Center is located at 10 East 66th Street.
