On July 31, Tikkun Olam volunteers came together to assemble 240 backpacks filled with 19 essential items for students from The Children’s Village in time for the start of school. Our support helps local children and teens in NYC on their journey towards well-being, belonging and independence.
Founded in 1851, The Children’s Village has stayed true to its original mission. They believe that three keys to a child’s success are education, work, and lifelong relationships. With a passion for education and high expectations for their students, they help youth develop the attitudes and skills necessary for successful entry into the workforce. They also emphasize the importance of strong adult relationships, which can be transformative for a child, especially those in foster care. The Children’s Village is dedicated to helping children build and nurture lasting relationships with family, friends, and mentors. Temple Emanu-El is proud to support this vital work.
We would like to express our gratitude to Susanne Fischer, Debbie Halperin, Miriam Reines, Phyllis Brodsky, Michael Wachs, Eileen Melniker,Tess Tarantino, Roz Pretzfelder, Susan Alexander, Stephanie Goldfischer, Jody Weisel, Rena Goldstein, Frank Bamberger and Diane Bialik who volunteered to complete this very meaningful Mitzvah. Without their continued commitment to supporting our community we would not have been able to provide these essential supplies for students.
