Temple Emanu-El’s First Spring Mitzvah Day

February 8, 2023

Since 2005, Tikkun Olam has held an annual Fall Mitzvah Day to offer help and support to our neighbors while creating community among our members. On Sunday, March 12 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we hope you’ll join us for our first-ever Spring Mitzvah Day, as we assemble packages that contain essential items for the most vulnerable populations in New York City. A light breakfast will be available for all volunteers. Let us know that we can rely on your help!

Registration is required and open only to temple members. Please email Tikkun Olam to register. Volunteer space is limited, so RSVP soon!

Mitzvahs planned for Spring Mitzvah Day 2023 include:

Selfhelp – Help provide 100 Passover packages for Holocaust survivors in New York City.

Part of the Solution – Assist us in assembling 60 packages for their clients, who are adults and children residing in the Bronx and currently enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) courses.

Necessity Packages — 200 packages containing needed hygiene items will be put together for people experiencing housing insecurity. The Urban Outreach Center extends the breadth of social services necessary to support the full worth and dignity of all people, striving for justice, transforming lives, and providing a space for the neighborhood to thrive.

The Bowery Mission – 300 “Essential Packages” will be assembled. The Bowery Mission has served homeless and hungry New Yorkers since the 1870s, when its neighborhood came to define the term “skid row.” Its children’s programs, Mont Lawn City Camp and Mont Lawn Summer Camp, began in 1894 by giving the children of immigrants the chance to escape the tenements in the summer. Today, The Bowery Mission is a results-oriented organization that is recognized as one of New York City’s most effective.

During our last Fall Mitzvah Day in November, over 80 volunteers assembled 1500 packages containing over 15,000 items for communities in need. Click the links below to check out some of the media coverage Fall Mitzvah Day received and to view the photo gallery.
