Congregation Emanu-El’s Participation in
Leadership Journey Project, Cohort 2
Congregation Emanu-El Embarks on a Jewish Education Leadership Journey
We are proud to announce that Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York has been chosen to participate in an exciting project meant to effect systemic change and transformation in congregational education. The name of the project is the Leadership Journey Project and it is designed to help congregations like ours tackle real change successfully. Offered by The Jewish Education Project, a beneficiary of the UJA-Federation of New York, the team of Rabbi Andy Kahn, Rachel Brumberg and Emma Kate Lindsay will be part of a five-congregation cohort. Over the next 15 months, this cohort will learn the latest theories on change management, develop personal and team leadership skills, and work on an educational change goal. Each congregation will be assigned an educational coach to help them through this process as well as participate in a two-day retreat led by experts from The Center for Creative Leadership.
The Leadership Journey Project represents the latest thinking in creating sustainable innovative Jewish education. It recognizes that for change to take place congregations need:
- Strong leadership teams, with an honest understanding of the root causes of the challenges they face;
- A deeper empathy of their multiple stakeholders, and the knowledge and skills of how to confront these challenges;
- The self-awareness and willingness to take the risks that are crucial to succeeding at implementing change.
Our team will concentrate their work on the area of teen and college-age engagement.
Expect to hear more about our leadership journey in the months to come. For more information, please contact Rachel Brumberg.
