Fire on Mt. Carmel

With the breaking of the very first news of the December 2010 forest fire raging on Mt. Carmel in the Galilee, rescue efforts were mobilized throughout the country, with the international community taking part.

Israel has ever endured in its 62-year history. There was a significant and tragic loss of life. Countless acres were stripped bare of vegetation.

The international Jewish community stepped up to the plate immediately, and Temple Emanu-El lost not a moment in mobilizing the members of our Philanthropic Committee to determine an appropriate response.

We are both happy and proud to share with you the news that the Philanthropic Appeal, through its Daphne Burness Fund, was able to give a $50,000 contribution to the JNF — the Jewish National Fund — the organization that has the major responsibility for the care and preservation of Israel’s natural environment.

Our gratitude is to you, the members of Temple Emanu-El.
