Jane Roman Pitt

Jane Roman PittJANE ROMAN PITT (1949 – ) has been writing songs ever since she discovered, at 15, that if she played guitar instead of oboe she could sing at the same time. A classically trained singer-songwriter, she has recorded and co-produced four albums, working with top folk, jazz and country musicians. She spent her early years in the musical atmosphere of Oberlin College. She earned a bachelor’s in music education from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., and a master’s in music theory and literature (summa cum laude) from Eastern Michigan University. She studied composition with William Albright and Anthony Iannoccone. She also holds a doctorate from Maharishi University of Enlightenment, where she is an adjust assistant professor of music. In 1997 she won the grand prize in the international choral competition of the Amadeus Choir of Toronto. Her choral pieces are published by Transcontinental Music Publications.
