Aharon Harlap

Aharon HarlapAHARON HARLAP (1941 – ) was born in Canada and attended the University of Manitoba, from which he received degrees in both music and mathematics. He studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music in London with P. Racine Fricker and at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv with Oedoen Partos. He went on to study conducting with Sir Adrian Boult in London, Hans Swarovsky in Vienna and Gary Bertini in Tel Aviv.

In 1964, Mr. Harlap immigrated to Israel, where he has established himself worldwide as a leading composer and conductor. Mr. Harlap is well known as a choral, operatic, and orchestral composer and conductor.

He has earned many awards, including the 1999 Minister’s Prize for Composition. At present, he is the musical director/conductor of the Tel Aviv Philharmonic Choir and the musical director of the opera program as well as a senior lecturer at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem. He is also the musical director of the Kfar Saba Chamber Choir. Mr. Harlap’s works have been performed throughout the world.
