Shabbat Kodesh and Family Dinner

This month, our lively Shabbat Kodesh family service will be held in the majestic Fifth Avenue Sanctuary. The service will feature joyful music led by soloist Hadar Orshalimy, and a three-piece band. The service will be followed by a family dinner; registration is required.

Midnight Run

Emanu-El teens in grades nine through 12 are invited to participate in our ninth annual Midnight Run, a volunteer program dedicated to gaining perspective on homelessness. The evening begins with our congregational service for Shabbat Kodesh, followed by a Family Dinner for Religious School families and teens. Then, teens will prepare meals and sort clothing donations before distributing them directly to those in need. Students will earn six community service hours. Donations of dark colored warm coats, pants, sweaters, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, shoes, backpacks and new socks and underwear can be dropped off at either temple entrance. NOTE: This activity is completely safe and accredited. Teens from schools, youth groups, churches and synagogues perform this activity every weekend.

Havdalah Pajama Party (Pre-K through 2nd Grade)

Put on your pajamas, bring the family and join your friends as we say farewell to Shabbat through songs, stories and hands-on crafts activities. Experience a modern take on ancient Jewish rituals filled with joy, gratitude and love. Participation is open to member and nonmember families. Wearing pajamas is encouraged but not required. A light dinner will be served.

Tribal Cup Competition & Lunch

The coveted Tribal Cup is currently in the possession of the Ruthites. Will it remain there or will the Noahites or Sarahites come out on top at this year’s annual Tribal Cup Competition?!? All current Tribal Members (Sundays grades 3-5) and Tribal Alumni are invited to the games where it will all go down. RSVP by Tuesday, January 29.

Congregation Emanu-El has a long history of helping others, and we are pleased to be able to offer this tikkun olam opportunity for our Monday Religious School families. Activities include making sandwiches for the homeless, packaging gifts for elderly Jews and assembling “Nighttime Fun” bags for hospitalized children. Students in Pre-K through 4th grade will participate as part of their regular Religious School day. Students should arrive at school by 4:00 PM, per usual, and attend their regularly scheduled classes for the first portion of the day. Parents and other temple members are welcome to join us in I.M. Wise Hall at 5:15 PM. Dismissal for students will be from 10 East 66th Street at 6:00 PM, not One East 65th Street.
