The multihued ceiling originally was constructed of a layer of plaster applied over structural steel, which was then painted and gilded. Restoration has addressed water damage and renewed the vivid colors, enhancing the motifs of the decorative scrollwork so that the Sanctuary ceiling is again truly breathtaking.
