SYNAGOGUE MENORAH
Poland, 17th century
Cast brass

This impressive menorah stands nearly five feet high and is still used in the main sanctuary for the festival of Hanukkah. Three muscular, rampant lions with long tails folded back on their spines support the base. The eight curved branches with lily flower attachments on the stems carry out the metaphor of the menorah as a flowering tree.
